Chicago Announcer; race openings

In-Game Description[]

Ford Mustang Police Cruiser
"Smoke down highways and power-slide around corners in this tough guy."

A fan-made Ford Mustang GT Police Car

The Ford Mustang Cruiser is not playable in the beginning. To unlock this car, it is necessary to finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in six checkpoint races as an Amateur. Drivers racing as a Professional must finish the races in 1st place. The car is well-balanced in performance aspects, having a good amount of durability in addition to its high speed and cornering ability. Being a police version, it only comes in one color. Mustang Cruisers are also used as standard police units in both London and San Francisco. This is the other playable car in most types of game styles in Cops and Robbers.

Although it is a performance model of the fourth generation "New Edge" Ford Mustang, it is stronger and faster than its stock counterpart, the Ford Mustang GT, with enhanced acceleration, top speed and durability. It is powered by a 4.6L SOHC V8 engine, producing 260 bhp at 6,533 rpm and 302 ft-lb of torque at 3,067 rpm, with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The two have similar handling.

Trivia[]

  • When the player activates a key which usually sounds the horn on every vehicle, it activates the siren. This also applies to the American LaFrance Fire Truck from Midtown Madness 2 and other add-on cars that have a siren.
  • It is a very rare car as a racing opponent, but when it is, the siren stays off.
  • Oddly, the AI engine sound for this car in Midtown Madness 2 sounds different from the one for the standard Ford Mustang GT. In Midtown Madness 1, the engine sounds are reused from the Ford Mustang GT. In both games, the demonstration sound for the Mustang Cruiser in the "Pick a Vehicle" page are just sirens.  However, the older police car engine sound effect remains in the mm2core.ar file and can be reused by modding the game.
  • This is the only vehicle from the original Midtown Madness to have a paint job replaced by a completely different version of it, particularly since Chicago wasn't reused from MM1.
  • On the vehicle showcase screen for this car, the photo for the standard Ford Mustang GT was reused since this is a fictional vehicle as there are no real police cars based on the fourth generation Mustang.
  • The dashboard is similar to the Ford Mustang GT but contains a radio and switches in the control panel and bullet holsters on the glovebox.
  • On the vehicle showcase screen for this car, the photo for the standard Ford Mustang GT was reused since this is a fictional vehicle as there are no real police cars based on the fourth generation Mustang.
  • The most well-known police version of a real-life Mustang is the Ford Mustang SSP. However, there have been accounts[1][2] of the Ford Mustang GT being used as a cop car, either with or without a complete cop body.
  • In Midtown Madness 2, its LOD side texture does not match, as it is reused from the previous game, which might contribute to the game's rushed development (but not as badly as Midtown Madness 1's development was).
