Oh, I love that Cadillac Eldorado! Smooth lines, powerful performance, even on stairs and sidewalks!
Chicago Announcer, winning races with the Cadillac Eldorado

The Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe is a playable car featured in Midtown Madness along with its sequel Midtown Madness 2. It is a luxury car that can maneuver easily through traffic. It is unlocked in both games.

Overview[]

In-Game Description[]

Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe
"Elegant, classy, high performance -- with a knack for occasional 'off-road' experience."

Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe
"A good balance of performance and durability. You can look good while driving."

Details[]

Another good car of the first five unlocked vehicles in the first Midtown Madness game. It has a good speed and a very good durability. It is available in red, blue, green, gold and chrome yellow colors. However, the sound of this car is rather rough in the game, just like a cawing crow. It is perhaps the only defect of this vehicle.

The Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe combines decent power and performance with true luxury and classy lines. The moderate mass and power of this Cadillac results in a good balance between performance and durability. Choose this vehicle for maneuvering easily through traffic and shortcuts.[1]

History[]

Cadillac Eldorado in real life

Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe in real life.

The Cadillac Eldorado is a luxury car manufactured and marketed by Cadillac from 1952 to 2002 over twelve generations.

The Eldorado was at or near the top of the Cadillac line. The original 1953 Eldorado convertible and the Eldorado Brougham models of 1957–1960 had distinct bodyshells and were the most expensive models that Cadillac offered during those years. The Eldorado was never less than second in price after the Cadillac Series 75 limousine until 1966. Starting in 1967 the Eldorado retained its premium position in the Cadillac price structure, but was built in high volumes on a unique two door personal luxury car platform.

The Eldorado carried the Fleetwood designation from 1965 through 1972, and was a modern revival of the pre-war Cadillac V-12 and Cadillac V16 roadsters and convertibles. The first Cadillac Eldorado started out in 1953 as a low-production convertible model. It received a minor facelift in 1955, and given hardtop models, but the main update was in 1959, when the car underwent a massive redesign. The resulting product was the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado, one of the most iconic cars of its time and the most famous Cadillac ever built. 1966 saw the next redesign, turning it from an extravagant luxury land-yacht to a powerful muscle car. 1971's model returned to the luxury limousine ideology; before in 1979, it was made into a more affordable machine. In 1986, the car's edges were rounded to give it a more modern look, before 1992, when it underwent its final redesign. Performance models of this eighth-generation model were sold as the Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe (which is the model actually used in both Midtown Madness games) and the Eldorado Sport Coupe. The early 2000s saw the demise of the Eldorado, and in 2002, production ceased completely.

Mods[]

An FBI modification of the Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe has been uploaded to Midtown Madness Archive.[1]

This edition has one paint job, named "Executive Black," and sirens to make it look like an undercover FBI vehicle. Included with the archive is a patch to allow the sirens to work without the game crashing. This FBI edition can also reach 202 mph, unlike its default counterpart.

A copy of the Cadillac Eldorado edited as a taxi has been included in the default cars traffic mod.

Trivia[]

  • The Eldorado will begin to produce smoke when it becomes slightly damaged, which is unusual in comparison to the other vehicles which normally produce smoke when they become heavily damaged.
  • In the original Midtown Madness (and in real life), the Eldorado was front wheel drive instead of rear wheel drive, yet it somehow became rear wheel drive in Midtown Madness 2. A similar mistake was made with the Panoz Roadster, the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage, the Audi TT, and the VW New Beetle RSi in the same installment as well.
  • In Midtown Madness 2, the Eldorado has new sounds. However, the older sounds from the first game can still be used by modding the second game. There is also an unused selection sound for this car in the second game.
  • In MM2 Revisited, the Eldorado is given a new color, based on the one in the vehicle showcase picture. This color was named Chrome Yellow, and the original color was renamed to Gold. The same custom color was also added to the MM1 Revisited V3 mod for Midtown Madness 1.
    • Chrome Yellow is actually a color that was available for the 1999 Ford Mustang GT (though it's simply named "Yellow"). According to Midtown Madness 1's available colors list on its vehicle selection screen, it is called "Gold."
  • The brakes are very strong on the rear, which causes the car to slide.
  • The Red Rocket uses the same dashboard as the Eldorado. The main difference is that the Red Rocket's dashboard was edited since the original woodgrain trim was replaced with bright red plastic.
  • In the Midtown Madness series, this car uses Carlsson 1/6 Evo aftermarket wheels instead of its original ones. This also applies to the Ford F-350 pickup truck using aftermarket wheels (although it intended to use its original wheels). However, a mod exists to replace the default aftermarket wheels with its original ones. It can be downloaded from the Midtown Club Discord server.
